Scholarships

Are you one of our community’s future leaders? We are here for you.

If you are graduating high school or are a mature student, you can receive up to $4,000 ($1,000 annually) for your post-secondary education through the Synergy Shares program. We are excited to offer these two scholarships, which complement the contributions we make in the schools of each of our communities already!

You are eligible for the Synergy Shares Scholarship if you are:
  • An active Synergy Credit Union member (here’s how you can become one in case you aren’t).
  • A high-school student about to graduate or a mature student
  • Enrolled to attend post-secondary schooling on a full-time basis. This can include a bachelor program, diploma, certificate or trade
  • A separate scholarship is offered for our Synergy Credit Union employees, spouses and children. Therefore, they are not eligible to apply for this one.

You will also be asked to complete the written portion of the application, which includes:
  • Listing the 7 Co-operative Principles (hint, you can find them in our annual report).
  • A short essay about Synergy’s mission statement (hint, you can find out all about it on our website) and what it means to you.
  • Describe how receiving this scholarship can make a difference for you (we’re excited to hear your plans).

How it works

If you are selected as one of the two recipients, $1,000 will be deposited annually (to a maximum of 4 years) to the recipients’ Synergy Credit Union account upon annual receipt of:
  • Proof of tuition payment. This can be a receipt of the funds paid.
  • Verification of full-time studies. This can be a letter of confirmation from the school registrar.
  • Scholarship must be instigated for redemption, with the first year of funds paid no later than December 31, 2023. If the scholarship is not redeemed by this date, the scholarship funds are forfeited.

The applications for 2022 have now closed. The winners will be contacted by June 30, 2022, with public announcements to follow in July.

SYNERGY SHARES
HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE
Scholarship

An additional part of our Synergy Shares Scholarship program is our commitment to an annual scholarship fund that helps local high school and college students further their education at a college, university or technical school.

To apply for a scholarship through this fund, you are encouraged to connect with your school's guidance counsellor.

The scholarship will be announced at each high school’s award event or graduation ceremony. If you’re chosen, we’ll send you the funds when we receive confirmation of your full-time enrolment. If you choose not to attend post-secondary school full-time within one year of the award, the scholarship will be forfeited.

If you attend high school or college in a participating community, you can apply to receive one of these annual scholarships through the school. The Selection Committee chooses the scholarship recipients based on:

  • academic achievement
  • school and community involvement
  • leadership responsibilities within the school community
  • personal qualities consistent with good citizenship
