Health is about more than physical wellbeing. Even for elite athletes. Second Bounce, a documentary produced by Two-Fold Films Inc., will peel back the layers of the journey of the Lakeland Rustlers Women’s Basketball team in 2022. Personalities connect and collide as a diverse group of female athletes battle personal obstacles post-pandemic as they defend their title and vie for redemption at nationals.
Lakeland College is situated on the Alberta/Saskatchewan border in the small city of Lloydminster. With only one local player, this group is going to have to come together to go far as one. Not being in a major city really allows these athletes to focus on school and basketball, but discreetly it pushes them together in ways they won’t expect. Themes of homesickness, cultural and religious, diversity, mental health, academic and parent pressures all collide as these girls work to defend their title and finally get their chance to not only play at the National Championships but to WIN. The team is currently 10-0 and led by Head Coach Chris King and Assistant Coach Rana Bazazo and on a winning streak they hope to continue.
“When Chris came to us over a year ago and asked us about following the team for their redemption season we were immediately intrigued,” said Jessie Mann, co-founder of the new production company, Two Fold Films Inc.
“You don’t have to spend long with Chris to hear about his passion for this team or the stories of the players within it. Kim and I have always had a special place in our heart for telling stories of grit and grace. This was a challenge we jumped into and the push we needed to start our new production company. This team of women is truly special and they deserve to have their story told. Highlighting their strength and how they overcome different challenges to play at this level is truly going to educate and inspire others. We are so appreciative of this opportunity.”
This production is made in part due to a partnership with Synergy Credit Union, which joined the project as the platinum sponsor. Synergy is committed to the increased financial and mental wellbeing of its members and sees this as an opportunity to highlight that message through the incredible storytelling involved in Second Bounce.
“It is another way for us to reach our members and non-members with the message to make sure you are taking care of yourself in a holistic manner – mentally, physically, financially. It all matters,” said Synergy CEO Glenn Stang. “I think this documentary is going to resonate with young people and it’s an important story to be told and we’re proud to be on board.”

I want my kids to grow up and watch this film and see what hard work and dedication look like and that they will be supported in whatever sports they decide to play. We need to all make a commitment to attending female games and supporting girls in sport at an early age.”

“It’s incredible the level of commitment of these two companies coming together to showcase elite women in sports here in Lloydminster. We have a unique team that has been very successful over the past few years. In 2020, we had a special group that won the ACAC Championship, a first for Lakeland College. That secured us a spot at the National Championships that never happened due to the onset of COVID-19. Two years later, we are back with the same core group trying to achieve the goal that was taken away from us. It is sort of a hidden secret that Lakeland College Athletics programs are often the top college programs in Canada. To have this high level of athletics in Lloydminster and Lakeland is awesome. To see this story being told in our community makes me hopeful that young athletes will see it and feel inspired to stick with sports and pursue their dreams. We are grateful to Synergy Credit Union for seeing the opportunity in the important work Kim and Jessie are doing through Two Fold Films Inc.”
Two Fold Films Inc. has been working with the team for nine months, already covering over 50 practices, workouts, all league games and countless other shoots capturing the women and coaching staff in their day-to-day life.
Second Bounce will continue filming the Rustlers’ story as they compete for a National Championship this March. Second Bounce is tentatively scheduled to be released Fall/Winter 2022/2023. ACAC Provincials are happening here in Lloydminster in March and we hope to see a strong showing of Lloydminster support for these games!
