Dear members,

The increased number of COVID-19 cases combined with children returning to school has created a few challenges at Synergy. At the time of writing, there has not been a confirmed case amongst our staff, although many of our team members have been tested due to contact tracing or ill children being sent home from school. Synergy is no different than many other employers, and we are doing our part to help keep our staff safe during this pandemic.

Therefore, I continue to be conservative and I will not allow our staff to travel between branches. I want to be sure that a team member does not accidentally spread COVID-19 amongst the team or pass the infection along to our membership. This approach does impact staffing levels, which could result in temporarily reduced branch hours and/or temporary branch closures while our team members recover from illness or wait out the self-isolation period. My team is doing its best to communicate these events as they occur through proper signage on branch doors and on social media. To stay up to date, please follow Synergy on our social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) where we post timely service updates. My objective is to never have to close all our branches to the public again.

The good news is, our Member Contact Centre is open seven days a week (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5p.m., and stat holidays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Many of our frontline staff participate in our contact center from time to time as our technology allows Synergy to decentralize this function. My hope is that Synergy can recruit more team members from our rural communities that will bolster staffing levels in our rural branches when needed.

As always, please remain vigilant and adopt all practices of health officials to keep you, your family and co-workers safe. And remember to:

• Practice increased personal hygiene
• Wash your hands often and do not touch your face
• Maintain a safe social distance of six feet or wear a mask in public if/when social distancing is not possible
• Eliminate non-essential travel
• Stay home if you are not feeling well

Your support and efforts are appreciated by everyone around you.  Thank you.
Stay safe. Take care.
