Financial and Fraud Alerts

An alert sent by email and/ or through text message that helps you stay up-to-date on your account information or helps protects your account from fraud.

"You can set up Alerts through online banking to be notified on your account information."
- Types of alerts you can set-up within MemberDirect  Online Banking:

Security Alerts

  • A new bill payee is added to your list of vendors.
  • Your Personal Access Code (PAC) is changed in online banking.
  • You are locked out of online banking after 3 failed attempts to answer your security question.
  • Your online banking account has been logged into.
  • A new INTERAC e-Transfer† recipient is added.

Small Business Alerts (requires Small Business Online Banking set up)

  • A pending transaction requires approval.
  • A pending transaction is about to expire.

Balance Alerts

  • A deposit exceeds an amount set for the following transaction types: ATM deposit, point-of-sale credit, receive an Interac e-Transfer.
  • A withdrawals exceeds an amount set ($100 minimum) for the following transaction types: ATM withdrawal, point-of-sale purchase, send an Interac e-Transfer, online bill payment, preauthorized debits, cheques.
  • A balance inquiry is made through an ATM.
  • The available or current balance of an account falls below a set amount. 
  • An available balance has insufficient funds for an immediate transaction.
  • A future-dated or recurring transfer has failed.
  • A future-dated or recurring bill payment has failed.

Financial Reminders

  • Your current and/ or available balance (alert frequency can be set up daily, weekly or monthly, depending on your preference).
  • A loan or mortgage is maturing.
  • A loan or mortgage payment is due.
  • A future-dated or scheduled transfer or bill payment may fail (for example, if it will overdraw the account).
  • A term deposit is maturing (can be set up for RRSP and RRIF term deposits as well).

- You will receive automatic alerts for the following:

  • When there is a change to your Alert contact information (email or mobile phone number).
  • When an Alert has been changed or deleted.

"You can receive Alerts to help you manage your cash flow."
- You can be notified by text and/or email if:

  • Your account falls below a set amount.
  • If there are not sufficient funds for a transaction.

Peace of Mind: Expand/Collapse

"You can protect your account from potential fraudulent activity."
- You can be notified by text and/or email if:

  • A new bill payee is added to your list of vendors.
  • Your Personal Access Code (PAC) is changed in online banking.
  • You are locked out of online banking after three (3) failed attempts to answer your security question.
  • Your online banking account has been logged into.
  • A new Interac e-Transfer recipient is added.

"You can rest assured knowing Alerts can help you ensure your payments and transfers are made on time."
- You can be notified by text and/or email if:

  • Your account falls below a set amount.
  • If there are not sufficient funds for a transaction.
  • If a loan or mortgage is maturing.
  • If a loan or mortgage payment is due.

"You can be notified of a transaction requiring your approval, even if you are away from the office."
- With Small Business Alerts, you can be notified by text and/or email if:

  • A pending transaction requires your approval to complete the process.
  • A pending transaction is about to expire.

Safe & Secure: Expand/Collapse

"You will receive up-to-date information on your account, but your personal information is protected."
- No personal information (to identify yourself) will be sent through text message or email.
- Your accounts will be identified by nicknames you specify. You set up the account nicknames when you set up your preferred Alerts within MemberDirect  Online Banking or MemberDirect  Small Business Online Banking on the full website.

Important: Synergy Credit Union will never ask you to provide personal information over email or text.

Free: Expand/Collapse

"You don't have to pay to use the Alerts feature."
- There is no charge to members for receiving alerts from Synergy Credit Union.

Note: Cell service and text message service required. Data roaming rates and text messaging rates may apply (depending on your cell phone plan and supplier) if you have this option for notification set up.

Additional Information:

- If you would like to receive Alerts, you will need to login to online banking to set up your preferences ahead of time. We can provide you direction with set up, if needed. We're here to help.

Signing up for Alerts:

  1. Log into Synergy Credit Union MemberDirect  Online Banking or MemberDirect  Small Business Online Banking on the full website. (Alerts cannot be set up using Mobile Web Banking or the Banking App.)
  2. Select 'Messages and Alerts' link on the left-side menu.
  3. Select 'Manage Alerts'.
  4. Select an Alert and the 'Get Started' button.
  5. Read and accept the Alerts Agreement.
  6. Enter the contact information for your preferred contact method – email, mobile phone or both. A total of 3 contacts can be added for Alerts.
    (Note: If you choose to receive your Alert by text, you will need to enter the passcode sent to your mobile phone to complete set up.)
  7. Once your contact information has been added, select account nicknames for each of your accounts.
  8. Choose the Alert you'd like to receive.
  9. Check box beside your email address and/or mobile phone number.
  10. Click 'Submit'.
  11. Repeat steps 8 thru 10 for all the Alerts you would like to receive.
  12. You will now receive text and /or email notifications when one of the activities on your active Alerts list occurs.

- The Alerts feature is currently supported by TELUS Mobility, SaskTel Mobility, Rogers Wireless, Fido, Koodo, Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, MTS, PC Mobile, and Solo mobile service providers.
