Personal Account Pack Questions

1. How does the personal SmartPack work? Expand/Collapse

That's a great question. The personal SmartPack includes a combination of transactions and will automatically adjust between 3 levels every month based on your account balance, banking activity and transactions (it does the work for you – we call it the Smart feature – a unique feature in the marketplace). If you do more transactions in one month you will be bumped to the higher priced level; if you do less transactions in a month, you will be moved to a lower level, getting you the best deal. You can trust you will get the best deal every single month, which reduces the overall cost and overages of your account pack.

Here's what's included:

  • Unlimited free deposits (no matter how much or how, and don't count towards your monthly transactions). You get even more transactions included in your pack (a credit union difference).
  • Unlimited free internal scheduled system transactions.
  • 12, 30 or unlimited transactions (you receive a flexible combination of person-assisted or self-serve transactions). Plus, the Smart feature will move you to the right level each month, giving you the best deal.
  • Free unlimited INTERAC e-Transfer† transactions to send.
  • Free e-Statements.
  • Ways to get to a $0 monthly price (through the minimum monthly balance waive).
  • Access to a ding-free ATM network, which means you can visit more than 1,900 credit union ACCULINK® ATMs across Canada and not get dinged (free of extra charges).

That's a great question. We know you work hard for your money and want to be able to save as much money as you can. We want to recognize you for that. We appreciate your business and want to be able to provide you with the account packs that help you save money, while finding what's best for you.

    (5 total – can be a combination of the two types)
  • One (1) free flair style cheque order per year ($30 value).
  • $5 off your annual safety deposit box price.
  • Access to a ding-free ATM network, which means you can visit more than 1,900 credit union ACCULINK® ATMs across Canada and not get dinged (free of extra charges).

3. How does the LitePack work? Expand/Collapse

That's a great question. The LitePack is perfect for those who have minimal transactions per month and would like the option of a free paper statement.

The LitePack provides account holders with:
  • Eight free debit transactions per month ($1.00 for each additional transaction).
  • Option of free e-Statements and/or free paper statement.

4. Is there a way I can still save money/ be rewarded for
my relationship? Expand/Collapse

That's a great question. We know you work hard for your money and want to be able to save as much money as you can. We want to recognize you for that. We appreciate your business and want to be able to provide you with the account packs that help you save money, and match what's best for you (our member), while rewarding your business at the same time. Here are a couple of ways you can save and be rewarded:

  • Profit Sharing: It's part of the credit union difference and why it pays to be a member. As a member of Synergy Credit Union, you can continue to earn ProfitShares through rate rebates on most loans, and rate bonuses on non-registered savings and investments. This means when your credit union profits, so do you.
  • Relationship Rebate: If you have products or services in 2 of the 3 categories (eg. credit card, loan, investment/savings), you can save almost 30% off your monthly price each month on your PowerPack account pack. Save $96 per year with the Relationship Rebate. (This is rebated at the end of the month with your monthly price).
  • Ways to get to $0 monthly price: In all levels of the personal SmartPack, you can receive a $0 monthly price (with the minimum monthly balance waive). And, with the Smart feature, you automatically move to the level with $0 monthly pricing, if you have a minimum monthly balance (it does the work for you, getting you the best deal).

5. How can I figure out which personal account is best
for me? Expand/Collapse

Great question. Some financial institutions have many account packs that are hard to understand, have hidden fees and dings on top of dings. At Synergy, our updated account packs have been simplified and are easy-to-understand (and transparent) so you can find an account pack that works for you.

With the SmartPack, you don't need to guess which account is right for you. This pack adjusts each month based on your account balance, activity and transactions (it's called the Smart feature). Without you needing to lift a finger, your account pack will automatically adjust to the right level each month giving you the best deal and minimizing your overages at the same time. Either way, you'll be in the right level at the right time – and save money. That's pretty neat.

Perhaps you want significant savings with the PowerPack (more than $500 per year)? The PowerPack offers a preferential U.S. exchange rate, which means you can buy U.S. funds at a better rate. It also provides up to $120 off the annual fee on select credit cards, INTERAC e-Transfer† rebates, Canadian and international ATMs rebates, and more.

The SaveDailyPack and the U.S.ExchangePack both offer options to earn competitive interest rates, to earn free transactions, and to reduce your U.S. foreign exchange rate risk (the U.S. ExchangePack).

The LitePack is best for someone looking for only the bare essentials. It's a low cost account that offers minimal transactions (8 free debit transactions, then $1.00 for each additional) and a free e-Statement and paper statement.

6. What do you have for students? Expand/Collapse

That's a great question. As a student, we know you are staying on top of your homework, while maybe playing on a sports team and/or working a part-time job. Finding time to do your banking may be difficult.

We are excited to share that youth (under 19 years of age), receive the SmartPack with no monthly fee – no matter the level (a $16.95 value every month, or $200 a year). Your monthly fee is rebated at the end of the month and you receive unlimited transactions, free e-Statements and free unlimited INTERAC e-Transfer† transactions. (The rebate is automatically provided on your account, based on your birthdate).

If you are a full-time post-secondary student (60% or more course load), you can receive $125 cash per year (when you show your confirmed registration). You get the $125 cash up-front, just by showing you are a student. Plus, it feels nice to be rewarded as a student, where we know you work very hard.

7. What do you have for seniors? Expand/Collapse

We thank you for your valued and loyal business with us. We know you like to save money and want to be rewarded for your loyal relationship at the same time. And, we agree that's important, too.

As a valued member, there are a few ways you can save:

  1. You automatically receive 50% off your monthly fee on the account packs you choose (if you are age 60 or over). That's right. Any personal account pack you choose. (The rebate is automatically provided on your account, based on your birthdate).
  2. ProfitSharing program: With ProfitShares, you can earn rate rebates on select loans, and rate bonuses on non-registered savings and investments. This means when your credit union profits, so do you. It's part of the credit union difference. Each spring you will receive ProfitShares allocations into your ProfitShares account and by the end of each year, you may receive a payout if you are above the reduced limits. And, if you are more than 69 years of age, you can apply to receive your full ProfitShares paid out of your ProfitShares account into your account pack over a certain time period. Ask us for more details.
  3. In all levels of the personal SmartPack, you can receive $0 monthly pricing (with the minimum monthly balance waive).
  4. In the personal PowerPack, you can save even more with the Relationship Rebate if you have products or services in 2 of the 3 qualifying categories. If you qualify for the Relationship Rebate, you can save $8 per month or $96 per year. You can qualify for both the Relationship Rebate AND the 50% Senior discount with the PowerPack (where the Relationship Rebate is applied first if you qualify).
  5. Free e-Statements or paper statements. Seniors (60 years and over) won’t be charged $2.50 for paper statements, regardless of the account pack they are in.

The SaveDailyPack, iSave and the U.S.ExchangePack accounts will have a $2.50 charge for paper statements.
