Green Leaders

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system that is recognized as the international mark of excellence for green building in 150 countries. Since 2002, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and LEED Canada have been redefining the buildings and communities where Canadians live, work and learn.

Synergy Credit Union’s new Lloydminster retail location is targeting silver certified status. This means the building is tailored to promote a holistic approach to be sustainable in five key areas:
• Sustainable site development.
• Water efficiency.
• Material efficiency.
• Material selection.
• Indoor environmental quality.

The benefits for achieving those targets are vast. They include natural working light in all possible areas, efficient and comfortable heating and cooling, reduction of carbon footprint, a healthy environment and lower operating costs.

Synergy Credit Union also has recycling programs and use of fuel-efficient vehicles, on-site showers and secure bicycle parking, encouraging staff to take part in environmentally-conscious practices. They are also undergoing initiatives, aiming to be paperless.
