Q. When I am away from a computer & I want to check funds, I have to enter my MemberCard debit card # on the phone. Is there going to be a better way to check my account over the phone?

A. A good question – and great timing! Synergy has just launched the answer: our new Mobile Services. It works on all cell phones and other devices with text messaging enabled.  Best of all, it’s quick, it’s easy, it’s secure and it’s free! There is no additional charge over and above your standard phone service charges.

People who have already tried our latest service love the convenience. For example, if you’re in a store and you want to know how much is in your checking account before you make a purchase, you can find out your current balance right away.  Want to know if that cheque you wrote two days ago has gone through? No more phoning or logging onto a computer to find out. As long as you’ve got a signal, the info you want is right in the palm of your hand. You just send us a text message (which we describe later on) and you get an automatic, instant reply.

Security is not an issue, either. Even if you lose your phone, your funds are never in jeopardy. The only information that is ever transmitted are your account balances and last five transactions. You or anyone else can’t use the phone to withdraw funds, change your account, or access any other personal or account information.  As well, if you did lose your phone, it’s very quick and easy to cancel mobile banking until you replace your phone and set up your new access information.

So here’s how to get started.  First of all, you need to already be set up for online banking. If you don’t have online banking, just call us and we’ll be happy to assist you. Once you have online banking, you then login to your banking account, click on the mobile banking link in MY PROFILE, then follow the simple instructions. Voila!  You’re good to go!

Mobile Services is one of those things that, once you’ve tried it a couple of times, you’ll be using it all the time.  If you want to check your primary account balance, you can simply text BAL to 66639 (MONEY). If you have more than one account and want to check all account balances, then text BAL ALL to 66639.  Checking recent account activity for your primary account is just as easy, by texting ACT to – you guessed it – 66639. In all cases, you receive an automatic text message reply.

You can have up to five accounts linked to the service. You just give every account a name, using one to five characters such as “CHQ01”, “CHQ02”, “SAV01” etc.  Don’t worry if you forget your account names. Text HELP to MONEY (66639) and you’ll get a list of keyword commands and your account nicknames, or pick up one of our “Quick Reference Guides” at one of our branches.
